Let Go


I am moving to the west coast at the end of this month. As I embark on this new journey filled with love and excitment, I reflect back on my time here on the east coast, my work, and the community that will forever reside in my heart. Uprooting, like any change, creates a whirlwind of feelings and a need for grounding. Change, new direction, a new home, new job, new relationships, whatever this change may be can often bring to the surface discomfort of the unknown.  I find myself grasping and attaching to old ways of being out of a desire to foster comfort, yet these ways no longer provide me with the same balance and rootedness I seek.  

I use the mantra meditation “Let Go” to cultivate space, ease, and centeredness throughout the change. I made a video of this meditation with Amrita Yoga and Wellness I want to share with you so that you can have this practice at your fingertips whenever needed.

When we try to control or restrain the natural and ever-changing flow of life, suffering will arise. The practice of letting go does not mean we become numb or apathetic. Instead it allows us to open our hearts and minds to any experience, state of being, person, or situation and accept life as is. We let go in order to make space for newness, change,and transformation to come into our lives with open arms. We let go of expectations and judgments so that we may be more empathic, understanding, and compassionate. Letting go is a practice, a training of the mind, and one that requires patience. 

Using a mantra (‘man’ : mind / ‘tra’ : protect) awakens the light within and allows you to let go of thoughts, feelings, disturbances, stories, or physical sensations you may experince in your mediation practice and come back to the one pointed focus, in this case the mantra ‘Let Go’.
